FAQ

  • No-Slip-Grips are non-toxic, flexible rubber rings that slide onto a dog’s claws to provide extra traction on smooth surfaces, without interfering with comfort or natural paw movement. They give dogs better grip and control when walking, standing up, or changing direction on surfaces like tile, laminate, and hardwood.

  • They improve stability by giving the dog’s claws the grip they are designed to provide. During normal gait, a dog uses the tip of each claw as a small anchor point, especially when braking, turning, or rising from the floor. Veterinary gait analyses show that dogs extend their claws slightly on contact with the ground, using them to engage surface friction and stabilise the limb. This works well on natural terrain such as grass or soil where the claws can dig in. On smooth indoor floors the claw cannot engage, so the paw slides forward.

Senior dogs and dogs with arthritis or post-operative weakness struggle even more because joint stiffness reduces their ability to compensate.

By adding a soft, non-slip surface to the claw, No-Slip-Grips let the dog regain this natural traction mechanism. The claw can press into the ring, producing controlled friction on tile, laminate, and hardwood. This reduces slipping, supports steadier weight shifts, and helps dogs move with greater confidence. Less instability also reduces strain on joints and soft tissue during everyday activities, which is particularly valuable for aging dogs or those recovering from injury.

  • Yes. The grips sit on the non-sensitive part of the claw, above the tip. They do not touch the quick. The material is non-toxic, soft, flexible, and designed to move with the nail. Many vets and physiotherapists use them in clinical settings to support safe traction.

  • Most dogs wear them daily without issues. They are designed for indoor use, so everyday wear around the home is appropriate. You should check the placement daily to ensure they haven’t been pushed up. No-Slip-Grips should never touch the toe itself, as this could cause friction or discomfort.

You can remove them for outdoor walks if preferred. But many dogs keep them on 24/7. If your dog’s feet become dirty after a walk, remove the grips, clean the paws, nails, and grips then replace the grips once everything is dry.

  • Longevity varies based on your dog’s activity level, weight, gait, and the type of flooring in your home. Many dogs use a set for one to two months. Dogs who drag their paws, pivot frequently, or spend time on rough surfaces such as pavement may need replacements sooner.

  • Check the placement of the grip. If it sits too close to the tip of the nail, adjust it slightly higher until it rests securely at a wider part of the claw. It may take a little trial and error to find the position that offers the best combination of fit and traction for your dog.

Some dogs have one or two claws that differ noticeably in thickness or shape from the rest. If a single nail is much thicker, thinner, or has a shallower curve, the size that fits the other nails may not sit securely on that specific nail. This can cause the grip to work its way off during normal movement. If the remaining claws hold the grips well, your dog will still gain the traction benefits. You can simply leave the grip off the problem nail.

  • They support safer movement by reducing slips on smooth floors. Less slipping helps dogs with joint conditions move with more stability and less compensatory strain. No-Slip-Grips are not a medical treatment, but they are a practical tool that supports joint comfort in daily life.

  • Yes. Puppies often struggle on slippery floors while their coordination is still developing. Veterinary orthopaedic guidelines note that a puppy’s joints, growth plates, and supporting soft tissues remain vulnerable throughout the first year, so repeated slipping can place unnecessary stress on structures that are still forming. Providing extra traction reduces the risk of falls and helps protect developing joints during everyday movement.

Active dogs can also benefit, since sharp turns or sudden stops on smooth floors increase the chance of slipping. Improved grip supports safer play, more controlled movement, and greater confidence on indoor surfaces.

  • Most of the time, yes. Boots and socks often shift or fall off during movement, and rugs are not always a full-home solution. While some high quality boots are designed with proper biomechanics in mind, many fashion-oriented versions are not. Poorly designed boots can alter gait, create friction points, and contribute to compensatory strain or injury.

Unlike booties or socks that fully cover the paw, No-Slip-Grips leave the paw open so dogs can walk, balance, and feel the ground as they normally would. An open design also avoids the moisture buildup that can occur inside closed footwear.

The grip sits directly on the claw, which is the part of the foot dogs naturally use for traction, braking, and control. This placement provides stable, reliable friction without changing how the paw moves. The result is a lightweight alternative that stays in place and supports natural movement without restricting it.

  • Yes. They are designed for smooth, low-grip surfaces like polished tiles, sealed wood, and laminate flooring.

  • Yes. The design was developed with input from veterinary physiotherapists, and who use them as a traction aid in rehabilitation settings. They are a simple and effective tool for improving stability during recovery, conditioning, or daily movement.

  • Most dogs ignore them once they are on. If your dog tries to chew them, redirect with a treat or engage them in another activity. Check the fit, since a loose grip is more likely to get their attention or irritate them.

No-Slip-Grips are non-toxic and small enough to pass through the digestive tract. If your dog swallows one, it should pass without difficulty. If a dog eats a large number of grips at once, seek veterinary attention to ensure there is no risk of obstruction.

  • Yes. If you ordered the wrong size, reach out to our team within the stated return window and we will help you exchange them for the correct size. The grips must be unopened for hygiene reasons. Unfortunately we cannot accept returns of open grips, unless there is a manufacturing defect. See our full Shipping and Returns policy here.

  • If your dog’s paws get dirty, remove the grips, wash them with mild soap and water, and dry them completely before placing them back on the claws.

Check placement daily to ensure they have not been pushed up the nail. The grips should never touch the toe itself, since that can cause friction or discomfort.

Check nail length weekly. Dogs with longer claws may need more frequent trimming for the grips to sit securely and work effectively.
